The Dolphins of Barataria Bay (Part 2)
A team of NMMF and NOAA veterinarians, biologists, and wildlife epidemiologists participate in a 10-day mission to evaluate the health of Barataria Bay’s bottlenose dolphins. Their goal is to discover any chronic health issues linked to oil exposure. And because dolphins are mammals and breathe through their blowholes, monitoring their respiration will help the veterinarians decide whether their lungs are healthy or diseased.

Mapping the Great Barrier Reef with Cameras, Drones and NASA Tech
In 2015, Richard Vevers, a British underwater photographer, was horrified when he returned—after just one year away—to a once colorful reef in American Samoa: It had turned pure white.
Vevers, who runs a marine advocacy group called The Ocean Agency, knew that bleaching (a process caused by global warming that starves the coral) was the cause. He also knew the public didn’t understand the ocean’s sorry shape because people couldn’t see what was happening firsthand. Cameras, he reckoned, could help.
