A Lingering Question About Dispersants: A Good or Bad Choice?
Did the use of dispersants have a long-term effect on the ecology and environment of the Gulf? Dr. Joseph Katz and his team at Johns Hopkins University are developing new ways to study dispersants. Their goal is to create tools to predict and mitigate the adverse affects of future oil spills.

Dr. Piers Chapman (TAMU) has been studying oil spills for decades and has taken what may be considered a controversial viewpoint about oil spills in the wake of Deepwater Horizon: While he agrees that keeping oil off of beaches and out of marshes is an important part of spill response, he thinks that the best solution for oil in the open ocean is to leave it alone and do nothing.

The Gulf of Mexico Alliance needs pictures! And they want to get them from those of you that live, work, and play around the Gulf.
Photos should relate to any of GoMA’s six themes: 1) coastal resilience, 2) data & monitoring, 3) education & engagement, 4) habitat resources, 5) water resources, and 6) wildlife & fisheries. Also, images must relate to the Gulf of Mexico and/or its watersheds within the five US Gulf States.
